DAP Bintulu on signature drive for new road to ease traffic woes

-

BINTULU: Democratic Action Party (DAP) Bintulu is carrying out a signature campaign to petition Bintulu Development Authority (BDA) to construct a road from Tg Batu via the Lebuhraya Abang Galau to the Bintulu old town.

DAP Bintulu publicity secretary Chiew Chan Yew at a press conference here yesterday said they hoped to collect 10,000 signatures from members of the public.

Chiew claimed that ever since the completion of the new fourlane Old Airport Road, traffic going to the Bintulu old town is chaotic resulting in inconvenience and confusion for many shop owners and road users around the area.

He further alleged that apart from converging all the traffic going to the Bintulu old town via the Law Gek Soon Road, businesses at the BDA/Shahida commercial centre have also been adversely affected.

“The new traffic flow design is illogical as going from a simple point A to point B became troublesome.

“Although so many had voiced their dissatisfaction over the situation through newspapers, other media platforms, writing letters, meeting BDA and even writing to Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Abang Johari Tun Openg who is also BDA chairman, their complaints were not taken seriously,” he further alleged.

“We believe that if BDA had looked seriously and professionally into this problem, it would not have arisen.

“Road users and shop owners would not have to put up with so much,” said Chiew.

He also said that the signature campaign starts immediately.

The objective is to get Bintulu people to support the construction of the said road.

“DAP will go to the town and residential areas, set up counters to explain the issue to secure signatures with consent,” he said.

“We will also have this petition online and get it completed in the next couple of months,” he added.

He urged the people of Bintulu to participate in this signature campaign to ask BDA to look into the traffic problem.
