Kuching Waterfront to come alive on New Year’s Eve

KUCHING: Everyone is invited to come to the Kuching Waterfront early this evening to join the New Year countdown and also to witness the launch of ‘ Visit Sarawak’ campaign.

Neverthele­ss, they are also reminded that certain roads leading to the waterfront would be closed early to facilitate the activities and traffic police personnel would be around to assist motorists.

The spectators would also be entertaine­d throughout the night by many top Malaysian artistes like Noryn Aziz, Rem and Shafiq Farhain, as well as popular local singers like Roxanne Lee, Felicia Gek, Gabriel Fairuz Louis, Mohd Firdaus Materang, Siti Hajar Mohidin and Nur Fauzana Wahid.

The celebratio­n would kick off at 5pm with entertainm­ents by popular local bands and buskers, followed by a medley of variety shows that would run till midnight.

The performing groups are At Adau, Belio Buskers, Legacy Band and On String Band – plus performers from Universiti Teknologi Mara ( UiTM) Sarawak and Lim Kok Wing University of Creative Technology.

The highlights of the event would be the musical fountain display, on top of more stage performanc­es featuring Malay dancing, ‘Ngajat’ Iban, as well as Melanau, Bidayuh, Orang Ulu, Chinese and Indian dances.

Other captivatin­g attraction­s to be shown are the water show, the lighting-up of the Darul Hana Bridge, the 3D imaging presentati­on and a video show from the Sarawak Tourism B oard, in conjunctio­n with the ‘ Visit Sarawak’ campaign launching by Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Abang Johari Tun Openg.

The finale will be a grand fireworks show at the stroke of midnight.

The organiser has also placed four giant LED screens strategica­lly around the event area so that the spectators would have good views of all the happenings.

Food and drinks are readily available on sale as early as 4pm, provided by the food trucks.
