PPWE Kapit visits Kota Kinabalu children’s home

KAPIT: A delegation of 13 members of Pusat Perkhidmat­an Warga Emas (PPWE) led by officials from Kapit Social Welfare Department recently paid a working visit to Rumah Kanak-Kanak Kota Kinabalu ( Kota Kinabalu Children’s Home) in Sabah.

The four- day study tour on the management and running of the children home from Dec 19 to 22 was organised by officer in charge of PPWE Kapit, Maxson Maoh of Kapit Social Welfare Department and treasurer Kapitan Wong Kie Ing.

The visitors were given a briefing on the children’s home by psychology officer Noraini Mahie.

Rumah Kanak-Kanak Kota Kinabalu is the only children home in Sabah that serves as a one- stop centre to accommodat­e non-dependent children and cater to their needs.

The home is situated on spacious land fully equipped with boarding facilities for boys and girls, dining hall, assembly hall, administra­tive block, wellness centre, playground, administra­tive block, play-school, kindergart­en and so on.

Children aged three to six years learn the fundamenta­l 3Ms (reading, writing and arithmetic) at the centre while the older ones attend nearby primary and secondary schools.

The centre has a bus and van to transport the children to and from school.

It has 93 children, from infants to 18 years olds with a staff strength of 53 headed by principal Suparidah Raidin.

The children each received a festive gift from the visitors.

The visitors were Anthony Terrance, Itom Rosita and Dolly Amos from Kapit Social Welfare Department, PPWE chairman Temenggong Wilfred Billy Panyau, treasurer Penghulu Wong Kie Ing, members Pemanca Yong Thu Fook, Penghulu Steward Sawing, Penghulu Abang Hamzah Bolhassan, Penghulu Madang Jelani, Kapitan Neo Kee Hoi, Ejah Ason and James Ling.

When contacted, Wong took the opportunit­y to thank Deputy Chief Minister Tan Sri Datuk Amar Dr James Masing, who is Baleh assemblyma­n, and Bukit Goram assemblyma­n Jefferson Jamit Unyat for making the trip possible.
