Good Samaritans aid poor families in Bau District

-

KUCHING: Poor families in Bau District continue to receive donations from a group of Good Samaritans, brought together by voluntary social worker Lim Chee Haw.

The latest recipients were three families from Kampung Duyuh and Kampung Bijongon, who were identified for assistance by Krokong Blimbin Saberkas unit chief James Daim.

James came to meet Lim here recently to take the donations in the form of rice, cooking oil and other food items, before proceeding to transport these items to the respective villages.

Lim said the donations were handed out in view of the Christmas and year- end celebrations, to help reduce the burden of these families.

“We have assisted many poor families in Bau several times already this year. We believe in helping the needy irrespective of race or creed.

“I have lived in poverty and hardship in my younger years, and I understand their predicament and therefore, I make it my personal goal to assist the needy,” said Lim, a retired marine police personnel now devoted to doing charity work.

On a related matter, Lim said he could be contacted via 082-248 153 or 016- 807 0388 to assist any poor family in need of a coffin for the funeral of a departed family member.

According to him, the cash donations from Good Samaritans are ‘parked’ at a coffin shop here to be used whenever a genuine request is received.

He also reminded the public that he could be reached only through his fixed line and mobile phone numbers – Lim does not have Facebook, WeChat or any other social media account.

So far, assistance has reached families at Kampung Sadir in Puncak Borneo, Sungai Apong here, Kampung Murud Plaman near Serian, Kampung Sinjog near Siburan, Kampung Sabang in Simunjan, Kampung Tanah Merah at Mile 27 of KuchingSerian Road, and Kampung Mantung Marau in Serian.
