Marina Bay Seafood Restaurant highlights authentic Cantonese, Szechuan dishes

MIRI: Those planning to have a nice seafood dinner this new year can head to the just- opened Marina Bay Seafood Restaurant & Market on Lot 2241-2242 at Jalan MS2/6 Marina Square 2 in Marina Parkcity here.

The restaurant serves authentic Cantonese and Szechuan dishes, prepared by five chefs specially flown here from China and Hong Kong.

According to proprietor Eastah Donntos, most of the fish on the menu are from the restaurant’s own pond.

“We strive to source our supply locally. Some of the fresh fish are from our own pond, which is just nearby in Marina Bay. For frozen seafood items, we source them from Sabah,” she told The Borneo Post yesterday, adding that the restaurant does not serve pork.

Eastah added that at the moment, the restaurant focuses only for dinner – running from 5pm to midnight.

“For now we only serve dinner, but in the next few days, we will begin serving lunch. Diners can come over for authentic Cantonese and Szechuan dishes, and soon we will also start serving dim sums,” she said.

Once it commences, the lunch hours would be from 10.30am to 2pm.

According to Eastah, Szechuan dishes are well known for being spicy, but for diners who have low tolerance for spiciness, they can always inform the kitchen to ‘ tone down the heat’ in the dishes ordered.

“One of our special dishes is the Szechuan- style Green Broth Fish. I first tasted this when I visited China and I immediately fell in love with it. But here, you can request the level of spiciness that you want because we know some people cannot take food that is too spicy,” she said.

The restaurant also has a small function room that can accommodate over 60 diners at a time.

“This function room is suitable for small events, including birthday parties. It has six tables, each able to accommodate 12 people, so it is just nice for any small gathering,” she said.

Right next door is the fresh seafood market that not only supplies the daily catch to the restaurant, but anyone who wants to look for fresh seafood is welcome there.

“Various types of ocean fish, prawns, lobsters and other seafood items can be bought at our market, which opens daily from 6.30am to 10.30am, and 5pm to 9pm,” said Eastah’s business partner Kwan Wei Sung.

He said diners could also come and pick the seafood of their choice at the market, and then have these items cooked and served to them at the restaurant.

Tonight, Marina Bay Seafood Restaurant is offering its New Year’s Eve Dinner Packages priced at RM288 (for four to six people), RM398 (four to six people), RM518 (eight to 12 people), and RM698 (eight to 12 people).
