-

KAPIT: Lions Club Song recently organised a Christmas and New Year gathering for its members and friends of Lions from Song and Kapit districts.

President of the Lions Club Song Kapitan John Kho said apart from celebrating Christmas and welcoming the new year 2019, the gathering was also to show appreciation to all Lions who have been very supportive of the club’s activities. He disclosed all the planned activities for the fiscal year 2018 were carried out smoothly.

‘ 2018 was a year of activities. We made our presence felt among the local community when need arises. For example, there were two incidences of longhouse fires where Lions sent immediate relief assistance in the form of food aid. We successfully organised rural health screening to advocate the importance of oral health and also mass blood donation campaign, fire prevention and fire drill exercise to inculcate safety awareness. We also reached out to needy students by providing them ‘Back to School’ assistance,” said Kho in his welcoming speech.

He welcomed members of Lions Club Kapit who had travelled by road to join in the celebration.

Kho said it is now convenient to travel between Kapit and Song by road, a distance of 44 kilometres which takes slightly over half an hour to drive as compared to the old mode of transportation using express boat. Among the Lions from Kapit attending were David Ling, Jessie Tang, Evelyn Biju, Dr Sia Tih Kong, Stanley Ling, Jason Kong, Sii Bang Ee, Ling Kok Hua, Ong Hwang Seng and Jenny Yii.
