MIRI: A Magistrate’s Court here yesterday remanded three men, including a teenager, for three days to facilitate the police investigation of a vehicle theft case.

The 17-year- old from Kampung Lusut Jaya, and two other suspects, both aged 28, from Mile 6 1/2 Jalan Miri-Bintulu and Taman Tunku, will undergo the remand under Section 117 of the Criminal Procedure Code at the Miri Central police station.

In his remand application, investigating officer Insp Andrew Binjua said a man lodged a police report on Oct 27 regarding his missing car.

In his report, the 50-year- old complainant said around 1.30am that day, he discovered that the car, which was parked outside his house in Taman Sunlight, Taman Tunku, had been stolen.

Acting on information received, around 11.25am on Dec 20, a team of police conducting ‘Ops Pintu’ found and seized a car, believed to have been stolen, bearing a false registration plate at Mile 6 1/2, Jalan Miri-Bintulu.

Upon further inspection, various items also believed to have been stolen were found inside the car.

Around 12.15pm on Dec 31, police detained the three suspects, including the teenager, at Jalan Raja on suspicion of involvement in the case.

In his application, Andrew said the investigation could not be completed within 24 hours and applied for a four-day remand on all three suspects to enable the police to complete their investigation papers.

He said the police also needed time to track down another suspect, who is still at large.

However, Magistrate Kasyfurrahman Abang Ahmad only allowed a three-day remand, which will end tomorrow (Jan 4).
