Official unveiling of GPS new logo set for Wednesday
KUCHING: The long- awaited unveiling of Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS)’s new logo is set for next Wednesday (Jan 9).
It is disclosed that the launch would take place at Parti Pesaka Bumiputera Bersatu ( PBB) headquarters near here, and that Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Abang Johari Tun Openg is expected to officiate at the ceremony.
The logo was chosen following a logo- design competition, which was open to the public not long after the formation of GPS was announced in June – about a month after the 14th general election (GE14) last year.
It is rumoured that the logo is shaped after a hornbill and comprises Sarawak colours – namely black, red and yellow.
GPS currently comprises the four local-based political parties which had quit the Barisan Nasional ( BN) – the nation’s former ruling coalition.
The four are PBB, Parti Rakyat Sarawak ( PRS), Sarawak United People’s Part y ( SUPP) and Progressive Democratic Party ( PDP).
The formation of GPS was announced on June 12 last year by Abang Johari after chairing a meeting comprising leaders from these four parties – following deliberations regarding the next move to be taken following the outcome of the GE14 on May 9. Pakatan Harapan ( PH) won the election and formed the new federal government.
Abang Johari had said that GPS would focus on Sarawak’s interests and rights based on the Malaysia Agreement 1963 ( MA63).
After several months of waiting, GPS was declared a legal entity after its official registration certificate was issued by the Home Ministry on Nov 22 – Home Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin announced the approval of GPS registration three days earlier.
