MCC tells garbage disposal contractors to buck up
MIRI: Miri City Council ( MCC) wants its garbage disposal contractors to carry out works according to the contract.
“The contractors should perform their task in accordance to the contracts awarded.
“We will not hesitate to issue warning against those underperforming contractors,” Miri mayor Adam Yii said to the media during MCC’s MeetthePeople Session at Urban Transformation Centre ( UTC) Miri yesterday.
In response to a number of complaints from members of public that some contractors did not collect garbage in their areas during the festive season and new year holiday, Yii said the council has conducted its own internal investigation on

the matter.
Initial investigation revealed that the contractors were unable to provide garbage collection services on that day because most of their staff were on leave, a reason which the council found unacceptable.
Yii said contractors have to make necessary arrangement to ensure there would be no interruption in garbage collection.
Touching on maintenance works along protocol road, he said the council would only conduct a dialogue session if there is still no federal budget for the public works department (JKR) to resume routine maintenance works.
During the MCC’s full council meeting for December last year, councillors voiced their concern on the dangerous overgrown grass along protocol roads particularly at road junctions which become blind spots and safety hazards to motorists.
At the meeting, Yii agreed with other councillors that MCC might have to cut the grass at blind spots along the protocol stretch but only if there is no budget from JKR to carry out maintenance works.
He added that it was very frustrating as many people blamed MCC for such poor service when it was clearly under JKR jurisdiction.
