More SGH elevators expected to be operational next week
KUCHING: Three more elevators at the main block of Sarawak General Hospital here ( SGH) are expected to be operational from next week to ease congestion especially during visiting hours at the hospital.
Bandar Kuching MP Dr Kelvin Yii said this in a press statement after being briefed by SGH director Dr Chin Zin Hing and its engineers during a spot check at the hospital yesterday.

“This is particularly troublesome in times of emergency or life and death situation for the patients,” he said when referring to only two out of the six elevators at the hospital main block that were functioning during his last visit last month.
“We have been receiving public complaints that the elevators at the main block of the hospital are not functioning and had caused a lot of inconvenience not just to the patients and the public, but also hospital staff.”
According to Dr Yii, the reasons cited for the delay in restoring the elevators’ operation were technical issues, insurance claims and procedural matters.
However, he said that the CF for the two elevators had just been released and they are expected to be operational by next week.
“The engineers had also given assurance that five elevators will be operational by next week and all six elevators at the main block of the hospital are expected to be fully functioning by this month.
“I will continue to follow up on the matter and pressure the contractors and relevant authorities to ensure this issue is properly addressed,” he said.
