Full report on recruiting foreign workers out in one to two months

-

KUALA LUMPUR: The full report on recruiting foreign workers, including from Nepal, will be known in one or two months, says Deputy Human Resource Minister, Datuk Mahfuz Omar.

He said the report from the Independent Committee on the Management of Foreign Workers would be studied before the ministry could restructure the policy on foreign workers.

“This issue (recruitment of foreign workers) is still being discussed at the ministerial level and we will also see the full report of the committee which will be submitted to us in a month or two.

“Any policy on foreign workers will be looked at based on the proposals made by the independent committee and all related matters will also be taken into consideration in the report,” he told reporters when observing the registration of new students at the Industrial Training Institute ( ILP) of Kuala Lumpur in Jalan Kuchai Lama here yesterday.

A total of 3,800 new students registered at 32 ILP under the Manpower Department across the country for session one, 2019.

Last May, the Nepal government suspended the entry of workers from that country into Malaysia due to the various fees imposed on its people working in Malaysia.

Following this, Human Resource Minister M. Kula Segaran held discussions and signed a memorandum of understanding with the Nepal government in October.

On the replacement for Permatang Pauh Member of Parliament, Nurul Izzah Anwar as chairman of the Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) Empowerment Committee, Mahfuz said it was up to the Cabinet to decide.

“It is a Cabinet-appointed post, so it is up to the Prime Minister and Cabinet to decide whether there will be a replacement or not,” he added.

Last Dec 17, Nurul Izzah resigned as PKR vice-president and chairman of Penang PKR, as well as government-related posts.
