SM Wong Nai Siong welcomes some 150 new students
SIBU: SM Wong Nai Siong held a welcoming ceremony for 147 new students yesterday as school board of management chairman Temenggong Dato Vincent Lau Lee Ming assured parents that their children are in good hands.
“Our teachers will do their best in giving the best education to your children,” he told parents.
He added that apart from Chinese, the school also teaches Bahasa Malaysia and English as these are compulsory subjects.
“The education we give will definitely meet the criteria of education in the world.”
To the students, Lau reminded them the importance of discipline.
Urging them to stay focused in life and to be positive in what they do, he advised them against wasting their talents.
“Learn to respect one another,” he added.
Lau, who is also the chairman of the United Chinese School Committees Association of Malaysia ( Dong Zong), said it is good for the country to have different streams of education system.
“There are many countries that have one education system and everyone receives the same education.
“For Malaysia, we cannot imitate them. In fact, for Malaysia, our education system is good,” he said.
Also present were the school board’s deputy chairman Dato Chieng Buong Toon, principal Lu Yew Hiiung and Old Students Association chairperson Pok Chee Hua.
