Government to review policies to widen wireless tech
PETALING JAYA: The Communications and Multimedia Ministry is reviewing some policies, especially on the spectrum and industry structure, in an effort to widen wireless technology, said Minister Gobind Singh Deo.
He said the effort was in line with the government’s mission in making Malaysia a digital country.
“Wireless technology is essential in achieving this objective and my ministry is reviewing some policies, especially on the spectrum and industry structure, to create a more sustainable industry and a win-win situation for the rakyat, the government and the operators,” he said.
He said this in his speech at the launch of the Celcom Axiata new corporate office here yesterday.
Gobind said access to the Internet, wired or wireless, opened up the entire world to users and he strongly believed that this was one of the most effective ways to empower the people.
Gobind said improving Internet access was vital to shaping the future of Malaysia’s economy.
“Malaysia’s blueprint for the Fourth Industrial Revolution (4IR), called Industry4WRD ( Industry Forward), has already been laid out by our Prime Minister (Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad).
“And, needless to say, strong support from industry players, stakeholders and technology enablers such as Celcom will be the catalysts for the its success,” he said.
The new Celcom corporate headquarters building, named @ celcom (repeat: @ celcom), is a 450,000 square foot 31- storey tower in a modern, agile and digital working environment.
Also present at the event were Celcom Axiata Berhad chairman Tan Sri Jamaludin Ibrahim and its chief executive officer Mohamad Idham Nawawi.
