KAPIT: The last leg of Jefferson Jamit’s recent walkabout to inspect various ongoing projects implemented in Bukit Goram state constituency saw him at the site of the ‘Proposed riverbank and slope protection works to existing Kapit Waterfront’ along Jalan Kubu Lama here.

The Bukit Goram assemblyman said the project is to further improve the Kapit Waterfront and an extension of beautification and landscaping works from the Kapit Express Terminal to Fort Sylvia.

Upon completion, he said spectators would have a proper place to watch the popular water sports which are regularly held here like the Baleh- Kapit Raft Safari, the power boat races and the regatta.

Presently, the crowds watch their favourite water sports from the river bank under the hot sun and rain without proper place to sit or shelter.

The assemblyman was happy with the progress of the project and thanked the Sarawak government for allocating the necessary funds for its implementation.

Among those accompanying Jamit were councillor Liew Hui Hua, councillor George Tang, SUPP Kapit chairman Ling Thian Ing, Pemanca Yong Thu Fook, Penghulu Sia Shui Poh and Penghulu Wong Kie Ing.

Earlier, Jamit inspected the projects to construct an exit road from the Kapit Hospital along Jalan Memora, repair and upgrade the sports complex along Jalan Padang Sukan, the proposed multi-storey car park at the town centre and met fire victims at Melatai, Jalan Selirik whose houses were reduced to ashes in a fire recently and attended a traditional wedding reception at Rumah Ringgit, Nanga Sebilat, Sungai Kapit.
