Padungan rep irked by slow progress of investigation

-

KUCHING: The slow progress of Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) and the police to identify the person behind the social media accounts and pages irks Padungan assemblyman Wong King Wei.

According to him, a police report was lodged in August last year against an account holder for defaming him on Facebook, and until today, the police have yet to identify the account user.

“I am very disappointed with the progress of the investigation because the report was lodged in August last year,” Wong said after lodging a police report against another Facebook user at the Simpang Tiga One Stop Centre yesterday.

He said the police had told him that the MCMC had yet to produce an investigation report to reveal the identity of the suspect via his/her IP (Internet Protocol) address.

Even after the change of the federal government, the working attitude of some enforcement agencies still remain the same, he said.

“I feel ashamed because I am part of that government. I have no confidence in all these enforcement bodies. The federal minister incharge should take note of this.”

Wong lodged a police report yesterday against a Facebook user under the name `Adam Yap’ who has criminally intimidated him and his family.

In his Facebook post, Yap allegedly said that his (Wong) whole family should die and also described him as a `Rocket Dog’.

“He ( Yap) also said that I am hindering freedom of speech,” said Wong, adding the post was written in Mandarin.

He also said he lodged six police reports in December last year, but only one person was arrested and charged in court under Section 500 of the Penal Code for defamation on Jan 9.

This might be the reason why Yap was angry, who again attacked him and his family yesterday, he added.

“More attacks would be made against me and other DAP members in future `if the police and the MCMC remain inefficient’”.

Wong believed that the account users who always attacked him were members of Sarawak for Sarawakians (S4S) as he had been exposing their lies and deceit in the news portals and other major news outlets.

Others may likely include DAP political rivals trying to gain political mileage in the run-up to the next state election, he added.
