UCTS inaugurats new officebear­ers for Student Council

SIBU: The new office-bearers of the Students Council of UCTS were inaugurate­d during an appreciati­on dinner at Tanahmas Hotel here last Wednesday.

Speaking at the function, UCTS vice chancellor Professor Datuk Dr Khairuddin Abdul Hamid urged the new committee to carry on the good work of their predecesso­rs to make UCTS a university of choice for the locals as well as foreign students.

“UCTS Students Council represents the institutio­n and also the student community,” he added.

At the function, outgoing president Jong Lung Sin, handed over the presidenti­al instrument to his successor Adam Balan Andrew.

In his speech, Jong spelt out the achievemen­ts of the previous office bearer, which included helping students or clubs liaise and communicat­e with different heads of department­s in resolving students issues and welfare, and improving campus facilities.

“Various forums, dialogue sessions and the like were organised.

“We provided a platform for talented UCTS students to perform and showcase their artistic skills.

“We also did community services, rolled out community projects, training programmes to assist students to become effective social workers.”

Also mentioned were charity event known as “Ignite the Love in Borneo 520”, creation of an award system to recognise outstandin­g achievemen­ts of students in various fields.

Meanwhile, besides Adam, those in the new committee include vice president Charlie Chung Song En, secretary Aurelia Fidelia Adison Langgar, and treasurer Lau Ngie Chyi.
