Labour Dept, Sosco hold first joint operation at Demak Laut
KUCHING: Sarawak Labour Department and Social Security Organisation ( Socso) held their first joint special enforcement operation yesterday, starting 9am.
Seventeen enforcement officers from both departments in four groups checked work places to ensure employers adhere to the labour ordinance, starting at Demak Laut Industrial Park here.
Fourteen premises in the area were checked by 4pm, with 78 violations recorded under Labour Ordinance (Sarawak Chapter 76) and ‘Akta Majlis Perundingan Gaji Negara 2011’.
These violations included failure to keep in record salary registration slips and allowances (11 cases); failure of employers to keep and register terms and conditions of employment (10 cases); debiting employees salary into their bank account without their consent ( 8 cases); failure of employers to keep records of their employee’ personal details ( 8 cases); failure to give notice under section 60A Labour Ordinance (Sarawak Chapter 76) ( 8 cases) and failure to display off days notification at their working places (5 cases).
The department issued 12 violation notifications for employers to correct their mistakes on failure.
Two investigation papers were also opened for violations under Section 119 of Labour Ordinance (Sarawak) for employment of nonresident workers without permit. A department spokesperson said such joint operation would be continued in the near future to ensure employers abide by the labour ordinance and look after the rights of the workers according to the law.
