UCTS offers new undergraduate programme in Industrial Chemistry
SIBU: University College of Technology Sarawak ( UCTS) recently launched a new programme – Bachelor of Industrial Chemistry ( Honours) under School of Engineering and Technology (SET).
The four-year programme comprising of eight semesters with a total of 120 credit hours is designed to prepare highly skilled manpower for the development of various industries in Sarawak.
This new undergraduate programme is in line with the ambition of the Sarawak Government in developing various industries in the state by fulfi lling the demand for professional graduates and highly skilled manpower in chemical technology fields.
“For the past two years we have been developing the programme and has obtained approval from the Ministry of Education [Ref: N/545/6/0100] and Malaysian Qualification Agency, MQA [Ref: MQA/PA 9400],” said Norhasmillah Abu Hassan, programme coordinator for Bachelor of Industrial Chemistry.
“Various scholarships are available to provide fi nancial assistance, such as Board of Directors Scholarship, Yayasan Sarawak, Yayasan Sabah, Yayasan Toh Li Hua, and many more. Students may also apply PTPTN for fi nancial aid,” she added.
Norhasmillah said graduates with Bachelor of Industrial Chemistry (Honours) can serve in companies engaged in oil and gas, oil palm, rubber, plastics, metals, pharmaceutical or start their own business in science or chemical technology.
“Graduates will be recognised as certified chemists under Malaysian Institute of Chemistry (IKM) which is important for career advancement in Science and Chemistry field.
“On top of that, UCTS will help and monitor their professional and career progression after they fi nished their studies and become alumni,” she pointed out.
Seven laboratories at UCTS with advanced and stateof-the- art equipment allow students to do practical and experiments, giving them hands- on experience in applying the concepts learned and gain proficiency in the use of high-tech analysis equipment and device.
