Bring up complaints on projects to relevant authorities — Rep

-

KUCHING: Bukit Semuja assemblyman John Ilus has ticked off some members of village security and development committees (JKKKs) who prefer to use the social media to voice their complaints on village projects rather than bringing up the issues with the relevant authorities.

He said that JKKK members, as the eyes and ears of the government, should know better when it comes to using the right platform to channel any complaints or suggestions regarding projects in their areas.

John thus urged them to cooperate with the contractors, implementing agencies and the Resident and District Offices to ensure the smooth and successful implementation of the government projects in their respective villages.

He gave this reminder when speaking at a recent function to hand over funds for Rural Transformation Programme (RTP) projects in Serian.

“They should know where to bring up complaints or suggestions properly to the relevants authorities rather than to put them up in the social media where they can bring negative impact to the people.

“Therefore, please work and cooperate with all the contractors, implementing agencies and the Resident and Distict Offices in any projects that have been approved for implementation in the area. By doing so, this can speed up the project completion,” he said.

John ,however, also acknowledged that during the course of project implementation, there are bound to be disagreements over the work, the specification and the requirements.

“If this happens, please talk to the implementing agencies as well as the contractor to give ideas. Sometimes they won’t agree because certain criteria of jobs must come with certain requirements, but I am sure they are willing to listen and explain their reasons,” he said.

At the recent event, John handed over three projects to contractors for implementation from last year’s ( 2018) allocation. These were upgrading and building a new store for a surau at Kpg Sorak Melayu, building a new JKKK office, store and kitchen for Kpg Ranchan and extending and upgrading of St. Pio Church in Kpg Slabi Entukuh.

John said the total allocation for these there projects amounted to RM480,000. Present at the event were the contractors, the JKKKs of the respective villages, Public Works Department (JKR) Serian officers and engineers and officials from the Serian Resident Office.

He said that last year, there were 27 projects under the RTP for Bukit Semuja.

“Some had been completed, others are ongoing and few more in the process of procurement and the design stage,” he added.

On another matter, John said he had also received a lot of complaints on rubbish collection towards the end of 2018 in Serian town and surrounding areas. Another was on the tall and uncut grass along the roads in Serian.

“I already explained that the problem lies with the contractor. The local council had acted on it and we hope that these problems will end soon.

“As for the tall grass here and there, explanation has been made and publicised in the mass media. We hope these problems will be resolved too,” he said.
