Over RM200 mln welfare aid disbursed
SIBU: The Minister of Welfare, Community Well Being, Women, Family and Childhood Development had given out RM209,590,550 as monthly welfare aid to 58,038 recipients all across Sarawak throughout last year.
According to Assistant Minister of Community Well Being Datuk Francis Harden Hollis, the assistance was meant for poor elderly individuals and children, as well as those with special needs.

at a hotel here yesterday, where Sibu Municipal Council (SMC) chairman Datuk Tiong Thai King and Penghulu Chua Hiong Kee, who represented Temenggong Datuk Vincent Lau, were present.
For this division alone, Harden said a total amount of RM30,141,150 were disbursed to 8,336 aid recipients.
Separately, another 7,738 recipients from all across Sarawak would stand to benefit from the contributions by the Sarawak government, given in connection with the coming Chinese New Year (CNY) celebration.
Each contribution comprises RM100 in cash and a RM50 hamper.
For Sibu Division alone, Harden said 2,073 people would benefit from the CNY contributions.
