‘Work as a team to ensure optimum service delivery’

SARIKEI: Working as a team ought to be made a culture in the civil service to ensure optimum service delivery.

New Sarikei Resident Felicia Tan and her predecessor Mohd Junaidi Mohidin stressed this point during a dinner gathering hosted by Sarikei Division Resident and District Office (Rando) Club at the civic centre here on Friday.

Junaidi, who is on transfer to take up his new post as the executive secretary of the State Cabinet Committee Meeting, said many development projects had been implemented or in the process of implementation during his two-year term as Sarikei Resident.

He considered it as a great achievement, which he attributed to the dedication and commitment accorded by members of various departments, coupled with close cooperation extended by various parties including the community at large.

“To me, the transfer from one station or department to another is part and parcel of our (members of civil service) lives. Most importantly is for us to carry the teamwork spirit wherever we serve,” he stressed.

Junaidi likened change of staff members across various departments in this division due to block or inter-departmental transfers, to ‘a new football team with new manager, coach and players’, adding that with the culture of working as a team, they would be able to propel this division to greater heights, especially towards realising its vision of becoming the ‘Food Basket of Sarawak’.

He cited the Sarikei Agro Park, the link road to Tanjong Manis, as well as the Pan Borneo Highway as among the factors that would contribute towards accelerating the progress of this division.

Junaidi also took the opportunity to thank all staff members of various departments for their strong cooperation, and hoped that they would extend the same kind of cooperation to Tan.

Meanwhile in her speech, Tan said she would need strong cooperation from all departments, local community leaders and the local community in general for her to carry on the excellent work by her predecessor.

During the function, seven staff members received Excellent Service Awards (APC) in recognition of their commendable performances throughout last year.

The recipients are Haron Mahidi, Jaahana Yusup, Norafida Jamat, Donny Justin Bang, Unji Selan and Bidah Lujah.

Deputy Sarikei Resident Abang Mohd Porkan Abang Budiman, Sarikei District Officer Christopher Ranggau, Meradong District Officer Badjuri Bidin, Julau District Officer Khalid Andong, Temenggong Junia Olia, and Temenggong Frederick Wong Kung Kuong were among the guests.
