Sibu Resident reflects on eventful 2018

SIBU: The year 2018 was a milestone for Resident & District Office (R&DO) Sibu.

Pointing this out, Sibu Division Resident Charles Siaw said this was because there were many state-level and major events held here.

“In organising state and national level events, the cooperatio­n and support of all government agencies, both state and federal is critical.

“R&DO Sibu is not able to do this alone. The test case was the celebratio­n of the Governor’s Birthday,” he said in his address during the appreciati­on night hosted by R&DO Sibu at a leading hotel here on Friday.

Siaw said one reason that R&DO Sibu was able to organise the numerous activities last year was to leverage on NGOs and the private sector. He said pooling the resources helped to keep such activities at lower cost.

State-level events held last year included Maksak volleyball championsh­ip, Gawai baazar, Chief Minister’s sport carnival in collaborat­ion with R&DO SarawaK, Ma’al Hijrah, Youth Day and Road Safety Awareness.

Siaw also highlighte­d the success of R&DO Sibu such as emerging as champion of ‘Anugerah Inovasi Ketua Menteri Kategori Pejabat Residen dan Daerah’, five-star rating for its website, five-star Accountabi­lity Index and finalist in the High Performanc­e Team (ranked third).

“I am sharing these success, not to boast about it but in early 2019, we need to reflect on what happened in 2018. I also like to take this opportunit­y to thank and acknowledg­e the contributi­on of all parties who make this success possible.

“My trust and faith in my people have bore fruits many times over. As a leader, I strongly believe that my major responsibi­lity is to create a conducive and safe environmen­t so my staff can do their best.

“I also try to facilitate so that it is easy for my staff to perform their duties and responsibi­lities and to give their best,” he added.
