Only three slots left for Damai Team Match Play

-

KUCHING: The Damai Team Match Play Golf Tournament to be held at Damai Golf and Country Club (DGCC) has received an encouraging response but limited spaces are still available for those interested.

This was announced by DGCC general manager Roslan Mohd Salleh who revealed that so far 13 teams have registered although the closing date for entries is Feb 10.

“This event is popular among our club members and also those from outside because it is basically an inter-team double knock out event whereby all the participating teams can compete with one another during the opening rounds,” he said.

“We have actually targeted 16 teams but so far 13 of the available slots had been taken up,” he added.

The tournament is expected to tee off on Feb 23.

“We expect the team match play event will also encourage the participating golfers to take part in the coming two-man Texas Scramble Golf Tournament which is to be held here in the second half of this year,” Roslan said on the other interteam event to be held at the club this year.

Meanwhile, the Damai Birthday Boy (BB) Tournament attracted over 50 golfers.

The event, which was introduced for the first time at the club, gathered club members who share the same birthdays in the respective month of the year.

In the nett category, Wan Amin Wan Johan who played with handicap 10 finished first after he carded a four-under par 68 while Abang Abdul Rahman was second with 70 strokes and Mobil Mustapha third.

In the gross category, Abdul Rahman Mansor who played with handicap seven finished first after he carded 79 strokes on countback while Awang Madzelan Awang Bakeri was second and Awang Sani Seruji was third.
