KUCHING: A raid by the Sarawak Narcotics Crime Investigation Department (NCID) at a house in Taman Goodland, Betong on Feb 16 crippled a drug peddling ring which had been active since 2017.

Sarawak NCID head Supt Sahar Abdul Latif said police arrested three suspects and seized 95.31 grammes of Syabu worth RM14,296.50, along with 90 capsules of Erimin 5 pills worth RM2,700 from the suspects.

“The suspects are a 36-year- old man from Jalan Lim Han Swee in Sibu, a 39-year- old man from Rejang Park in Sibu, and a 24-yearold woman from Taman Rantau Panjang in Sibu,” he said in a statement yesterday.

According to Sahar, 53 plastic packets containing crystal-like substance, believed to be Syabu, and 90 Erimin 5 pills were found in one of the bedrooms on the first floor of the house.

A body search on one of the male suspects also found a plastic packet containing Syabu in his pocket, while the female suspect was found with two plastic packets containing Syabu in her possession.

“The total value of the seizure is RM16,996.50. We also seized a pickup truck and three gold rings belonging to the suspects worth a total of RM127,339,” he said.

Sahar disclosed the case has been classified under sections 39B, 39A(1), 12( 2) and 15(1)(a) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952. Section 39B carries the mandatory death sentence upon conviction.

He also revealed that only the 36- year- old male suspect did not have a past criminal record, while the other two suspects had both been previously charged under Section 12( 2) and Section 15(1) (a) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952.

All three suspects, who tested positive for methamphetamine and amphetamine, are currently under remand for seven days.
