Work on retaining wall at Rumah Eddy almost complete

-

SIBU: Construction work on the retaining wall costing RM200,000 at Rumah Eddy Jemat in Kemuyang here, has reached about 80 per cent completion, says Assistant Minister of Housing and Public Health Dr Annuar Rapaee.

He said funding for this project came from his Rural Transformation Programme ( RTP).

He noted that prior to the construction of the retaining wall, the residents were always worried about the safety of their longhouse upon noticing the soil erosion at the side of the structure.

Dr Annuar, who is also Nangka assemblyman praised longhouse chief Eddy Jemat for proactively highlighting the plight of the residents to him.

He told The Borneo Post yesterday when asked on the status of the retaining wall at the longhouse.

In another development, Dr Annuar revealed that Sarawak government has allocated a sum of RM1.5 million for upgrading of roads connecting the 34 longhouses in the constituency.

“To- date, 12 longhouses in Nangka constituency have benefited from this road upgrading project. And this year, we will continue with the upgrading works on those roads linking to the remaining longhouses,” he added.

He pointed out that most longhouses in the Nangka area have feeder roads spanning about 1km from the main road, while there were also those with a distance of about 500 metres.

Meanwhile, a longhouse chief Dick Ijau gave the thumbs-up to Dr Annuar, who is always on the ground to feel the pulse of the people.

“He ( Dr Annuar) has done a lot to improve the infrastructure of the 34 longhouses so that the residents can enjoy a better quality of life. He has also brought about basic necessities such as school, kindergarten, community hall and sport fields – we are indeed very thankful to him,” the longhouse chief added.
