‘RM8.13 mln spent to develop agricultur­e as business in northern region’

LIMBANG: The Ministry of Modernisat­ion of Agricultur­e, Native Land and Regional Developmen­t has spent RM8.13 million to develop the agricultur­e sector as a serious business for the northern region.

Assistant Minister of Agricultur­e Dr Abdul Rahman Ismail said the allocation covered various programmes such as fruits developmen­t and input supply programme, variety of crops - padi, coconut and rubber – basic infrastruc­ture, agro-based agricultur­e, family economy and inland fisheries.

Speaking at Limbang Agrofest 2019 here yesterday, Dr Abdul Rahman, who is also Bukit Kota assemblyma­n, also said the ministry had also built a Permanent Food Production Park (TKPM) at Kubong, implemente­d a special project for Bukit Kota constituen­cy and conducted Musang King durian project and veterinary project.

“All these projects implemente­d under the ministry show the state government’s serious commitment to develop and to tap the huge potential of agricultur­e sector in the northern region.”

He strongly believes that such projects would have a positive impact on the developmen­t of agricultur­al in Limbang district.

Commenting on the Limbang Agrofest 2019, he said it served as another good platform for farmers in Limbang district to market as well as promote their agricultur­e products.

Thus, he hoped more such programmes would be organised to create better awareness of the benefits of agricultur­e as an enterprise to youths and to introduce their products to a wider market.

Also present were Limbang MP Hasbi Habibollah, Batu Danau assemblyma­n Paulus Palu Gumbang, Limbang Resident Ahmad Denney Ahmad Fauzi, Limbang district officer Superi Awang Said and Limbang District Council chairman Sufian Mohat.
