SIBU: Sarakup Indu Dayak Sarawak ( SIDS) will open more branches throughout the state in its efforts at developing Dayak women, says its president Dato Ir Alice Jawan.

She explained that by opening more branches, the association could reach out to more women to participate in socio- economic activities to uplift their standard of living.

“These smaller ( branches) or sub- branches will further facilitate our activities,” she said when opening the 27th annual general meeting (AGM) of SIDS Sibu at a leading hotel here on Saturday.

Also present were SIDS Sibu advisor Catherine Nain Abit and chairperson Angelyn Uchi Maseng.

The AGM was attended by about 200 members of the association.

Alice, who is the permanent secretary to the Ministry of Utilities, said SIDS now has 26 branches with nearly 14,000 members across the state.

She revealed that SIDS would open its branches in Selangau and Kemena soon.

At the AGM, Alice also presented incentives to children of 18 SIDS members who achieved excellent results in their public examinations last year.

The AGM was to review the association’s financial reports, activities and related matters.

Among matters discussed were three major events organised by SIDS Sibu, namely Sarawak Pua Kumbu Weaving Competition 2019, Sibu Gawai Dayak Celebration 2019 and SIDS Sibu’s anniversary dinner.
