Overwhelming response to Valentine’s Day blood drive

-

MIRI: A Valentine’s Day blood donation campaign held yesterday at Permaisuri Imperial City Mall ( PICM) was a great success, with 120 out of the 174 who registered successfully donating blood. According to the deputy chairman of the blood donor recruitment committee of Malaysian Red Crescent ( MRC) Miri, Cr Karambir Singh, 24 new donors were registered during the campaign.

“The organising committee targeted about 70 successful donors and we are delighted with the number of people who turned up to support the event,” he said.

Co- organising chairwomen Rita Lau – representing Moving Communities Team – and Annie Chang of the blood donor recruitment committee were also at the event.

According to Miri Blood Bank assistant information officer Kenneth Numan, such good response was timely as Miri Blood Bank was running low on stock for all blood types.

“Miri Blood Bank also supplies blood stock to Sibu, Bintulu, Limbang, Lawas and Marudi. The usage is high at these places and we are doing all we can to encourage more blood donors to come forward,” he said.

Donors may also go to the Blood Bank during office hours from 8.30am to 12 noon and 2.15pm to 4pm (Monday to Thursday), and from 8.30am to 11am and 2.30pm to 4pm on Fridays.
