CHPS No.5 needs RM3 mln for new school hall
KUCHING: The Board of Management for Kuching Chung Hua Primary Schools ( CHPS) No. 1 to 6 needs at least RM3 million to build a new multi-purpose hall for CHPS No.5.
Chairman Wong Tiong Hook said the board hoped to turn the plan into a reality in the next couple of years so that pupils and teachers of the school can have a more conducive environment for learning.
Currently, the school which is located off Jalan Mendu here does not have a school hall.
According to Wong, the proposed multi-purpose hall is at the design stage and the project would commence within this year, if all goes well.

Wong said construction cost was estimated at between RM3 million and RM4 million.
Considering the amount, he hoped that members of the public would lend a helping hand to support Chinese education.
He said the proposed airconditioned multi-purpose hall to accommodate up to 1,000 people will be equipped with LED screen.
He added the school will be able to carry out various activities in the proposed hall as well as rent it out.
Meanwhile, CHPS No. 5 headmistress Chin Mui Ling said the school had launched a programme last year to promote the habit of reading among pupils.
She said various kinds of reading materials had been made available in and around the school to encourage pupils to pick up the good habit.
Chin said the programme will be extended to benefit parents next month.
“From March 1, we will be providing a platform for parents to cultivate the habit of reading. Our school library will be open to parents from 12.15pm daily.
“Parents can do some reading while waiting for their children. We want parents to set a good example for their children,” she added.
She said parents may also borrow books from the library with their children’s library cards.
