Dr Jerip stresses importance of social cohesion in pursuit of balanced devt
KUCHING: The state government places great importance on social cohesion in the society in its pursuit of balanced development.
Assistant Minister of Transportation Datuk Dr Jerip Susil said the government believes that apart from economic and infrastructure development, achieving social cohesion and harmony are the key to becoming a developed state.
“Social harmony is a very important aspect in achieving balanced development in the state of Sarawak which has targeted to become a developed state by 2030.
“All levels of the society should always play an important role as the eyes and ears of the government in relaying information on illegal activities and issues.
“Inputs, views, ideas and feedback from the community are needed to improve the standard of services provided by state agencies and departments so that they can address the needs of the people,” he said when officiating at a dialogue held at Kamung Anah Sibakar Community Hall, Padawan on Sunday.
The programme was jointly organised by Sarawak Social Development Department, Ministry of Welfare, Community Wellbeing, Women, Family and Childhood Development, Kuching Division Resident’s Office and Padawan Sub-District Office.
Dr Jerip, who is also Mambong assemblyman, stressed that social development is the responsibility of all parties involved whether it is at the state government, federal government or non-governmental organisations level.
“Residents in the rural areas should also involve themselves and work closely with all stakeholders in improving the harmony that exists in family and community respectively.”
At the event, Dr Jerip announced government grants totalling RM800,000 to carry out Rural Transformation Programme ( RTP) projects in the constituency. Of the amount, RM200,000 is for constructing an access road to Sibakar waterfall, RM100,000 for improving the Kampung Anah Sibakar football pit and RM500,000 for construction of a farm road connecting Kampung Anah Simutu/Sibakar to Kampung Tepoi, Serian.
