Daro fire station to be operational by mid-year
SIBU: The much- awaited fire station in Daro is expected to be fully operational by middle of this year.
According to Daro assemblyman Safiee Ahmad, this is based on the latest information he received.
“The fire station is considered 100 per cent completed. Now, based on the latest information that I received – the staffing and everything – expected to be fully operational by middle of this year,” he said to The Borneo Post when asked on the status of the fire station.
According to earlier media reports, the single- storey fire station building including staff quarters cost RM6.8 million.
In a recent interview, Safiee had pointed out that the nearest fire station was located in Mukah, two-and-a-half hours away from Daro.
“In the event of a fire, there would surely be nothing left to salvage by the time firemen arrive at the location,” he was quoted as saying then.
Meanwhile, Fire and Rescue Department ( Bomba) Sarawak director Khirudin Drahman said last year that Daro Fire Station was classified as a Class D station.
It would have both full-time and auxiliary firemen, added Khirudin then.
In another development, Safiee revealed that all his Rural Transformation Programme ( RTP) projects focused on infrastructure development, namely roads, jetties, community halls, building of new mosques and suraus as well as upgrading of churches.
He said his focus was more on infrastructure which was vital to bring development to the area.
