Fajar Internatio­nal College hosts CNY do

MIRI: Fajar Internatio­nal College campus was filled with funfilled activities as it celebrated the Chinese New Year last Thursday.

The Students Affair Department together with the Student Council hosted the ‘ Huat Ah!’ Chinese New Year celebratio­n, where students dressed in red showcased their talent in singing festive songs while enjoying food and other delicacies as well as happily receiving ‘angpau’ from the chief executive officer Dr Peter Tham.

In his speech, Tham said the celebratio­n not only marked the welcoming of another new year, but also served as a reminder for students to set their goals towards achieving their academic pursuits.

“‘ Huat,’ in Hokkien Chinese, means prosperity. I hope that every one of you can achieve prosperity in the form of good results academical­ly and memorable life during your time spent in the college,” Tham said.

He stressed that Fajar community consists of various races from different background­s, and through such celebratio­n, students can learn about different cultures, which will be useful when they go out into the society in the future.

The celebratio­n was held at the student’s lounge of the college. It was also one of the many students’ activities organised by the college.
