They also pooled funds for ‘angpows’ to be given out to the 38 residents of Salvation Army Boys Home, at Jalan Ban Hock here to spread the joy of Chinese New Year.

According to Lim, the recipients have been contributing Chinese New Year gifts to the Salvation Army Boys Home every year. As for the individual recipients, he said they comprised three persons namely 43-year- old Qartina Mohd Esa, Noraida Nen (60) and Abdul Manan (62).

I am happy that we are able to bring the joy of the Chinese New Year celebration to the Boys Home. I know what it feels like for them, as I myself once lived through poverty and hardship during my younger years. Lim Chee Haw, Volunteer social worker

He explained the recipients, who are from Kampung Rampangi, received assistance from the Good Samaritans for the second time this year.

“I am happy that we are able to bring the joy of the Chinese New Year celebration to the Boys Home. I know what it feels like for them, as I myself once lived through poverty and hardship during my younger years.

“I am also happy that despite differences in race and creed, the Good Samaritans still assisted the poor at Kampung Rampangi,” said Lim, a retired Marine Police personnel now devoted to charity work.

He thanked a Mr Law and family from Foochow Road No 2, Fook Lai Construction in MJC Batu Kawa, a Mr Hii and Mr Chia from Jalan Matang, and others for their assistance in this latest charity act.

On another matter, Lim said he can be contacted at 082-248153 or 016- 8070388 to assist in helping non-Muslim poor families acquire coffins for their departed family member.

He revealed 17 poor families have so far received such assistance, and the latest recipients comprised families from Kampung Sabang in Simunjan, Kampung Tanah Merah, Mile 27 Kuching- Serian Road and Kampung Mantung Marau in Serian.

“So far, 17 coffi ns have been delivered to places as far as Bau, Serian and Sri Aman. Thanks to cash donations from Good Samaritans, coffi ns are purchased and placed at a coffin shop in Kuching ready to be delivered upon request.

“The donors donated the money to buy these coffins out of belief that this act could reverse their bad luck. Whatever the reasons may be, their kind gesture is a great help to the poor families,” said Lim.
