HONG KONG: Investigative thriller Integrity starring Sean Lau led the Hong Kong box office during the Lunar New Year period.

Its three- day cumulative takings came to HK$ 10 million ( RM5.2 million), which was impressive for the tiny market.

The impressive showing excited director Alan Mak, who was hoping to break box office records.

According to lead actor Sean Lau, he and his wife Amy Kwok would be watching the movie in a cinema to experience the buzz among movie-goers.

Nick Cheung, who also stars in the movie, said that the production team deserved a lot of credit.

Anita Yuen, who made a cameo appearance in two scenes, said it wouldn’t be right for her to claim any credit, but she was happy just to have had a part in it.

She is hopeful that Hong Kongmade films shall continue to grow in diversity.

Integrity revolves around the story of King ( Sean Lau) an investigator in Hong Kong’s anti- corruption commission, who becomes involved in a high-profile smuggling case involving a tobacco company. A key witness, the whistle-blowing accountant Jack ( Nick Cheung) fails to appear in court. Instead, he flees to his home in Sydney.

Fellow investigator Shirley ( Karena Lam), who is also King’s estranged wife, is tasked with capturing him.

The judge gives the investigators seven days to produce Jack, or the case would be dropped, which starts a race against time.
