BAU: The nine projects to improve water supply here at a cost of RM130 million will be completed by the end of next year.

Tasik Biru assemblyman Datuk Henry Harry Jinep said tenders for all the projects had closed and had been awarded to the successful contractors.

He said the projects include replacing water mains which are over 40 years old to mild steel with cement line pipes of 800mm in diameter.

“Once completed, Bau will have 41 million litres of water supply per day to cater for the 64,000 population,” he told reporters after attending a briefing at the Bau water treatment plant yesterday.

Henry said supply would come from the Batu Kitang water treatment plant at 26 million litres a day, while the Bau plant could supply 15 million litres per day.

He added that the projects would

According to him, once the water projects are completed, Bau will also enjoy faster development.

“The population in Bau can double while housing estates will flourish once the projects are completed because we will not have water problems,” he said.

He added that Krokong, Singgai, Skandis Lama, and areas on higher ground are among the water stress areas at present.

As a temporary measure, he said allocations would be given to improve the gravity feed systems in these areas.
