Young fighters set for muaythai meet

KUCHING: The Sarawak Muaythai Associatio­n ( PMNS), with the cooperatio­n of the Sarawak State Sports Council ( MSNS), will be sending a team of seven athletes to the national Inter-Schools and Youth Muaythai Championsh­ips at South City Plaza, Sri Kembangan, Selangor from Feb 21 to 24.

Five athletes will participat­e in the schools categories while the other two will compete in the Youth categories.

The athletes are Maurien Hii Sie Lin of SMK Chung Hua Miri, Ayu Adya Azmi of Kolej Vokasional Matang, Firdaus Mood of SMK Sadong Jaya, Syarif Nukman Norman of SMK Tun Abang Haji Openg, Rahman Abdullah of SM Teknik Sejingkat Kuching, Johan Ghazali and Mikail Ghazali of SMK St Thomas Kuching, Abang Muhd Uqail Abang Mustapha and Morris Hii.

manager Ahmad Rodzli Hashim, who represente­d SSC CEO Dr Ong Kong Swee, presented the state colours to the Sarawak team at the Sarawak Stadium, Petra Jaya yesterday.

Receiving the state f lag was assistant team manager Ali Mos.

Rodzli, who gave words of encouragem­ent and advice to the state athletes, hoped they will display a high fighting spirit and do their best to win glory for Sarawak.

“We have not set any specific target for the team but I am hoping they can win some medals for us.

“I believe we can do well, we won a gold medal in Perak Sukma last year.

“For the younger ones, it will be a good exposure for them,” said Rodzli.

“This competitio­n is also part of our preparatio­ns for our state Sukma athletes and back- up athletes,” he added.

Rodzli also advised the athletes to observe high discipline and keep safety in mind while in Selangor.
