Federal govt urged to expedite approval on proposed new police quarters

LIMBANG: Assistant Minister of Agricultur­e Dr Abdul Rahman Ismail is calling on the federal government to expedite the approval on the proposed new quarters for Limbang District police personnel to replace the existing ones which were built over 40 years ago, dilapidate­d and uncomforta­ble.

He said the urgent upgrading of the living quarters is necessary so that the welfare of personnel and their family members is well taken of, besides ensuring their safety and comfort.

Dr Abdul Rahman made this call when officiatin­g at the Limbang district police headquarte­rs’ Family Day telematch held at the Limbang Sports Complex here yesterday.

“Currently, over 50 per cent of more than 200 members are living in the old quarters, some really in bad conditions with the roof leaking causing discomfort.

“On behalf of the police here, I am appealing to the federal government to speedily allocate funds to build their new quarters.”

Also present were Limbang district police chief Supt Mohd Bukhori Saffai, his wife Asiah Hasan who is Limbang Police Family Associatio­n (PERKEP) chairperso­n and other senior officers.

Meanwhile, Mohd Bukhori when speaking at the same event said the project had been proposed for inclusion in the 11th Malaysia Plan adding that the new site which has been identified is in front of the new Limbang district police headquarte­rs.

“Of paramount importance is the safety and comfort of personnel and their family members so that the former could focus on giving efficient service,” he said.

On another matter, he praised his personnel for their fast move in crippling the house break-in gang known as ‘Geng Didi’ which was believed to have been set up in August last year to carry out burglaries and theft of vehicles’ components.

Mohd Bukhori added with the arrests of the gang members, police believed they have successful solved nine cases of house break-in and theft of vehicle component with seizure valued at RM60,000.
