SCCS to refurbish part of Sibu Hospital children’s ward

-

SIBU: The Sarawak Children Cancer Society (SCCS) is looking to work with the Sibu Hospital to refurbish part of the hospital’s children’s ward.

SCCS committee member Pau Kiew Chuan disclosed they had received such request from the hospital.

“We hope it can be done as soon as we get sufficient fund for the purpose,” he said during the ‘Heart of Gold’ event organised by Leo Club of Segi University at Star Megamall here yesterday.

He said that it was SCCS’s mission to provide care and support for childhood cancer patients and their families in Sarawak.

“SCCS started as a group of parents who came to support each other in 1999, providing minimal financial and moral support to families in need.

“We now have a range of support services, provide counselling, monthly financial aid, transportation services, medical procedures and equipment not covered by the hospital, support programmes for childhood cancer survivors and a 13-room home for outstation patients in Kuching.

“We have since supported over 1,200 families and have a yearly operating cost of around RM1.5 million,” he added.

Among those present at the event were organising chairman Alvan Koh and medical practitioner Dr Lai Boon Foo who spoke on ‘Childhood Leukaemia’.
