Suggestion to debate Suhakam’s annual report at Dewan Rakyat

KUALA LUMPUR: The Parliament­ary Select Committee on Rights and Gender Equality suggests that the Annual Report of the Human Rights Commission ( Suhakam) be debated in the Dewan Rakyat.

Its chairman Nor Azrina Surip said the suggestion was made during the second meeting of the committee at the Parliament House here yesterday.

“The meeting heard and discussed briefings from Suhakam chairman Tan Sri Razali Ismail on Key Human Rights Issues in Suhakam’s Annual Report,” she said in a statement.

She said during the meeting, the Women, Family and Community Developmen­t Ministry also presented a briefing on ‘ Observatio­n On The Proposed Formulatio­n of the Sexual Harassment Act’ and ‘ Malaysia Towards Enacting A Gender Equality Act’.

Nor Azrina, who is also Member of Parliament ( MP) for Merbok, said the meeting was attended by Klang MP Charles Anthony Santiago, Ahmad Fahmi Mohamed Fadzil ( Lembah Pantai MP), Kasthurira­ani a/p Patto ( Batu Kawan MP), Datin Mastura Mohd Yazid ( Kuala Kangsar MP), Siti Zailah Mohd Yusoff ( Rantau Panjang MP) and Ma’mun Sulaiman ( Kalabakan MP).

He said the meeting was also attended by officers from the Attorney- General’s Chambers and Ministry of Finance acting as permanent representa­tives ( ex- officio). — Bernama
