Limkokwing University launches its own film academy

CYBERJAYA: Market trends are indicating that more youths prefer to take up skills-based programmes that could lead them into their career paths.

In response to this, Limkokwing University has launched the Limkokwing Film Academy – a dedicated film-based centre slated for training youths who are keen on building a career within the film and content industry.

In his remarks, Limkokwing University Industry Empowermen­t senior vice-president Dato Raja Aznil called upon youths who may feel ‘uncertain about their future’ to consider a career in film and content.

“The film and content industry is huge, with many sub-sectors that are able to provide opportunit­ies to a wide range of talents. I urge the youths, especially those with an interest in the arts, to visit our webpage (and start) to build a lifelong career.

“It can be dancing, writing, fashion, graphics, acting, music, or even the technical areas such as special effects, animation or even motion capture. We need more young storytelle­rs to visualise the beauty of this country and capture the sort of people whom the world has not yet discovered,” said Aznil in a press statement, adding that the mobile world ‘is hungry for digital content’.

“We know the talents are there. All they need is the right guidance to polish the rough edges until they shine and stand out.”

The Limkokwing Film Academy is keen to produce 1,000 skilled graduates for the film and content industry within the year, and is kick-starting its mission by offering 100 scholarshi­ps under the Tan Sri Limkokwing Foundation.

The academy is streaming its offers in two ways – the first being aimed at youths who wish to build their skills in particular areas; the second is purely for those who wish to boost and refresh the skills that they already possess.

The first stream, catering to those who have completed their Form 5, is a two-year programme where they can graduate with a Limkokwing Film Academy certificat­e.

However, anyone with one Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia (SPM) credit can move on to complete a diploma programme with the university.

The second stream comprises two- day series of intensive workshops and three-month programmes. It consists of specialise­d programmes, with industry experts sharing their knowledge with the participan­ts.

Upon completion, the participan­ts will receive Limkokwing Film Academy certificat­es as well.
