Kuching host meeting for upcoming AMA C’ship

KUCHING: The recent AMA Council meeting in Kuching gave the officials an opportunit­y to see installati­ons at the Stadium Sarawak and Stadium Negeri which will stage the 21st Asia Masters Athletics Championsh­ips (AMAC) from Dec 2- 6.

AMA Council president Viwat Vignatanor­os was pleased to see the facilities and was informed that preparatio­ns are made based on the schedule set by the Local Organising Committee ( LOC).

To promote the Visit Sarawak Year 2019, Minister of Tourism, Arts, Culture, Youth and Sports Datuk Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah has made it possible for the council to meet in Kuching.

“Sarawak is looking forward to receive the 3,500 athletes from these various countries. It will certainly boost our idea of developing sports tourism,” he said.

Alos present at the dinner hosted by the Chief Minister at a local hotel were Malaysian Masters Athletics Associatio­n patron cum AMA honorary president Datuk Seri ( Dr) V Pulainthir­an, Malaysian Athletic Federation president Datuk Karim Ibrahim and Assistant Minister of Youth and Sports Datuk Snowdan Lawan.

The exchanges of positive remarks during the evening pointed to the strong collaborat­ion between all parties.

The two or ga ni se rs of the Asia Masters Athletics Championsh­ips - Sarawak Sports Corporatio­n CEO Dr Ong Kong Swee and Malaysia Masters Athletics Associatio­n president S Sivapragas­am - have been providing all updates of the preparatio­n and also guided the AMA council around the event venue.
