PKR Sarawak: Many activities lined up for International Women’s Day

-

KUCHING: The Women’s Wing of Parti Keadilan Rakyat ( PKR) Sarawak will hold several activities to celebrate International Women’s Day, which falls this Friday.

Its Petra Jaya branch will be visiting Petra Jaya Health Clinic and Maternity and Child Clinic at Kampung Pinang Jawa, its Miri branch will visit the maternity wards in Miri Hospital and present goodies, while its Batang Sadong branch will celebrate the occasion with mothers and children at one of Tabika kindergartens there.

“International Women’s Day is celebrated on March 8 every year. It is a focal point in the women’s rights movement. It is a public holiday in some countries but is largely ignored elsewhere. In some places, it is a day of protest. In others it is a day that celebrates womanhood.

“This year’s theme is ‘ Think Equal, Build Smart, Innovative For Change’,” PKR Sarawak Women’s chief Nurhanim Mohksen told a press conference at their office in Mile 3 here yesterday.

On another subject, she said they were in the process of setting up a cooperative for its members in Sarawak. The purpose is to create gender equality and empowering women.

“We will take all the necessary steps to register the cooperative after our next Sarawak Women Leadership Council meeting.”

PKR Women vice chief Voon Siak Ni was also present at the press conference.
