KUCHING: Deputy Minister of Domestic Trade and Consumer Affairs Chong Chieng Jen hopes that Malaysians would remain confident in the Pakatan Harapan (PH)-led federal government, in view of the present environment.

He said when PH took over the federal government, the progress that it strove for ‘did not start at zero, but at a negative territory’ due to the RM1 trillion debt.

In this respect, he said with the repayment of RM37 billion in refunds for the Goods and Services Tax (GST), the income-tax arrears should help spur the economy, especially in view of the global economy facing uncertainties.

“Thus, I hope the people would believe in the new government, which is doing its best to implement changes so that the people could prosper,” Chong spoke at the ‘NV Star Annual Recognition Night 2018’ hosted by the management of Nirvana Memorial Park on Friday.

In his remarks earlier, the deputy minister said the Nirvana Memorial Park, which was set up 20 years ago, had been doing well.

He also praised the company’s ability in achieving today’s scale and achievements, and continuing to innovate, improve and remain strong.

Meanwhile, Nirvana Memorial Park managing director Anna Wong said the company maintained steady growth despite the stormy wave of changes throughout last year.

She attributed this success to the efforts by the many agents and partners, as well as the continuous innovation by the company’s leaders in keeping pace with the times and diversifying the products.

Last year, Nirvana Memorial Park launched the first intelligent and environment-friendly ash interment area in Southeast Asia, where high-technology went hand-in-hand with the traditional funeral culture, she said.

“Recently, we have established a ‘Benevolent Garden of Loving Kindness’ columbarium. Economy niches are available to the public to be donated to the needy. It will be given free to the needy, with a letter from a charitable home or the church.”

At the event, top performers of the company received recognition for their hard work.

Cindy Chung was the ‘Top Service Advisor’, with Stephanie Lai and Vivian Chai in second and third places, respectively.

The ‘Awards of Excellence’ went to Voon Ai Chung, Amber Lam and Yeo Hai Wui.

The winner of the ‘Top Service Director’ category was Chung Joon Swiee, with Crystal Lai as first runner-up.

The winner of the ‘Top PreDistrict Service Director’ category was Chung Joon Sin, with Hazel Lai placed as first runner-up.

The winner of the ‘Top District Service Director’ category was Chung Miang Poh, with Amy Low the first runner-up.

Thus, I hope the people would believe in the new government, which is doing its best to implement changes so that the people could prosper. — Chong Chieng Jen, Deputy Minister of Domestic Trade and Consumer Affairs
