S’wak govt to look for funds for Brunei-Limbang stretch
LIMBANG: The Sarawak government will look for funding to make sure the second phase of the Pan Borneo Highway project connecting Limbang division to Brunei takes off as proposed.
Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Abang Johari Tun Openg said the Brunei government during a meeting with the Sarawak government had in principle agreed to build that stretch of the Pan Borneo Highway project.
“If the federal government wants to proceed with SarawakSabah Link Project without going through Brunei, we (state government) will build a road ( Pan Borneo) via Brunei as what had been requested by the people in Limbang and Lawas.
“We will look for own funds to continue with the project,” he stated when officiating at the Badudun Festival and Buffalo Race 2019 at Kampung Gadong, Limbang yesterday.
Abang Johari said further that the Brunei government in principle had agreed to build a road to Limbang.
On another development, he said the state government will build six more telecommunication towers for Limbang and another five in Lawas to boost the internet speed and coverage in northern part of Sarawak.
Besides that, he said he would bring to the next state cabinet meeting the request for subsidy for the ferry connecting Kampung Gadong area with surrounding areas in Limbang to ease the burden of the people.
The ferry is still being used while waiting for the construction of the second Limbang River Bridge to be completed by 2021.
Also present were Deputy Chief Minister Datuk Amar Awang Tengah Ali Hasan, Assistant Minister of Agriculture Dr Abdul Rahman Ismail, Limbang MP Hasbi Habibollah, Batu Danau assemblyman Paulus Palu Gumbang, Limbang Resident Ir Ahmad Denney Ahmad Fauzi, Limbang district officer Superi Awang Said, Limbang District Council chairman Sufian Mohat and Limbang Malay Association chairman Mohamad Abu Bakar.
