Works Ministry to discuss road project with S’wak govt to avoid duplication – Baru

MIRI: The Works Ministry will discuss with the Sarawak state government to identify theroutes forroadprojects planned by both parties to avoid duplication.

Its minister Baru Bian said this is important to ensure the proposed infrastructures can be developed optimally for the benefit of the people, especially those in the rural areas.

“We will discuss with the Sarawak state government so that our plans will not overlap. This is important because we want to work together with the Sarawak government. If they have planned for road projects through certain areas, then we will not overlap for the good of the state and people.

“We do these things because we want the people to experience the necessities and infrastructures,” he said.

Baru said this in a press conference after a meeting with seven Chinese associations in Marudi recently.

He said the communities involved have appealed to the federal government to consider the Sarawak- Sabah Link Road which will be developed without going through Brunei Darussalam to also include Marudi in its route.

Baru said he was aware that the state government has planned to develop MiriMarudi road leading to Long Terawan. Hence the federal government plans to start a new route from Long Lama to Limbang, Lawas and Sabah through the interior areas.

He said if the road planned by the state government reaches Mulu, the Ministry of Works would then develop spur roads to connect the main road to Long Terawan.

Baru is optimistic that the new link road would spur more economic activities in the interior areas of Miri, Limbang and Lawas.
