TANJUNG MANIS: The Sarawak government will not compromise with any efforts by any individual to halt development in Tanjung Manis.

Assistant Minister of Urban Planning, Land Administration and Environment Datu Len Talif Salleh said this is for the benefit of the people in the Rajang basin areas including Kapit.

“Sibu will be connected by road to Kapit soon.

“This mean products from Rajang basin and hinterland in Kapit can reach ports in Tanjung Manis.

“We can market these products overseas.

“This will open up space and opportunities for us to broaden the economy of our people,” he said when officiating at Tanjung Manis Day here yesterday.

Earlier, the Kuala Rajang assemblyman said the state government had approved more than RM300 million to build a road from Sungai Pasi in Sarikei division to Tanjung Manis in Mukah division.

He said the road, about 17 km long, will provide road access from Sarikei to Tanjung Manis which at the moment can only be reached by water transport.

“When the road is completed, those from Sarikei can drive up to Tanjung Manis and the journey is about 30 minutes.

“This is part of the comprehensive planning we have planned for Tanjung Manis 30 years ago,” he said.

Len also said that the development in Tanjung Manis was made possible through the support and cooperation of the local people.

Among those present were Sarawak Timber Industry Development Corporation general manager Hashim Bojet and Tanjung Manis MP Yusuf Abdul Wahab.
