‘Investor keen in integrated filtering plant’

LIMBANG: A company is interested in investing in an integrated filtering plant in Lawas, says Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Abang Johari Tun Openg.

He conveyed the good news when officiatin­g at the Badudun Festival and Buffalo Race 2019 in Kampung Gadong here yesterday.

“The investor has written a letter to me and I’ve already asked ( Deputy Chief Minister Datuk Amar) Awang Tengah (Ali Hasan) to go to Hong Kong and discuss with the investor, as well as to do some research works.

“They have already conducted a research in Lawas and if this project could be implemente­d, it would definitely uplift the economy of Lawas and Limbang.”

In addition, Abang Johari disclosed that that Sarawak government had allocated some RM1.5 billion for Northern Region Developmen­t Agency ( NRDA) to further accelerate the growth of the northern region with vibrant developmen­t activities.

The allocation, he said, would be to build more facilities and basic infrastruc­ture like roads,

electricit­y and water supply, as well as communicat­ions towers under Regional Corridor Developmen­t Authority ( Recoda) chaired by Awang Tengah.

He added that the projects would not only provide infrastruc­ture but would also include socioecono­mic programmes.

He explained that NRDA was set up to speed up infrastruc­ture developmen­t in northern Sarawak and to attract investment­s, which would help to uplift the socioecono­my of the people.

“Limbang and Lawas will be placed together under NRDA with the total allocation of RM1.5 billion.

“We will upgrade the infrastruc­ture and facilities because this project needs to hit its objective to transform Limbang Division in line with the current digital world developmen­t.”

Abang Johari further said Sarawak government would come up with a list of approved projects soon this year for implementa­tion.

Later, the chief minister announced a government grant of RM50,000 for the Badudun Festival and Buffalo Race event.

Limbang MP Hasbi Habibollah, Assistant Minister of Agricultur­e Dr Abdul Rahman Ismail who is Bukit Kota assemblyma­n, Batu Danau assemblyma­n Paulus Palu Gumbang, Limbang Resident Ahmad Denney Ahmad Fauzi, Limbang District Officer Superi Awang Said, Limbang District Council chairman Sufian Mohat and Limbang Malay Associatio­n chairman Mohamad Abu Bakar were also present.
