STU welcomes less congested 2019 SPM exam timetable
SIBU: Sarawak Teachers’ Union ( STU) welcomes the 2019 Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia ( SPM) examination timetable with candidates sitting for an average of only two papers per day.
“STU welcomes the new 2019 SPM examination timetable as it acknowledges and accommodates the candidates, parents and especially the teachers’ concerns,” said its president Macky Joseph yesterday.
He noted that SPM candidates would not have a congested examination timetable this year as the Education Ministry had decided to keep to an average of two papers a day.
Macky, however, noted that the Physics, Chemistry and Biology papers will have to be completed over three days, where these subjects comprise three papers each. He also remarked that invigilating teachers would still get their much- deserved year- end break to recharge before the new academic year starts.
He added that the marking process should be able to be completed before the new academic year begins.
“Nevertheless, STU urged and hoped for the SPM results to be released earlier. This would ensure ample time for the students to plan for their further studies,” said Macky.
A national English daily had reported that the Education Ministry has taken stakeholders’ views and concerns into consideration for SPM this year.
As a result, students on average will now sit for two papers a day.
Examinations Syndicate director of examinations Adzman Talib reportedly said it has revised the proposed timetable to make it less packed.
Adzman was further quoted emphasising that students are given breaks between Additional Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry and Biology by alternating them with other subjects and with weekends.
