MIRI: SMK Chung Hua Miri will hold the first- ever Borneo International Robotic Football competition at Bintang Megamall here this April 11 to 13.

Supported by the Ministry of Tourism, Arts and Culture ( Motac), Ministry of Education ( MoE), Sarawak Education Department, Miri City Council ( MCC), Sasbadi and Tesslab Robotics, the event will gather 45 teams from Malaysia, Thailand, Vietnam, Taiwan, China and Greece – all eyeing to showcase their best robotic machines.

“The competition is open to Malaysian and international participants aged between nine and 18. For international competitors, we offer slots to only 40 teams; thus, receiving such an encouraging response gives us the confidence to make sure that our firstever international competition would be a success,” SMK Chung Hua Miri principal Albert Ong said in a press statementa yesterday.

He said each team would comprise four members, including the leader, while the competition’s rule and regulations are similar to those used in the World Robot Olympiad.

“This is a great opportunity for competitors from different countries to meet, share their skills and knowledge in physics, as well as to expose them to different experiences. Certainly, it will give our students the opportunity to learn as much as they can, building their confidence and the much-needed creativity by observing others,” he said.

SMK Chung Hua Miri had represented Malaysia at the World Robot Olympiad from 2016 to 2018, and brought home several awards from these competitions.
