ICATS Miri runs mentor-mentee programme

-

MIRI: The International College of Advanced Technology Sarawak (iCATS) Miri held a mentor-mentee programme for its Diploma in Business Administration (DBA) students recently.

A total of 22 students and four lecturers were involved in the programme.

Coordinator Nurol Asmayla Wahab said the mentor-mentee programme involves all academic courses at iCATS Miri.

They are Certificate in Electrical and Electronic Engineering (CEE), BTEC HND (Business and Technology Education Council Higher National Diploma) in Electrical or Electronic Engineering, and Diploma in Plantation Management (DPM).

“But for this first meeting, we at DBA took our own initiative to start this mentor-mentee programme together with our students.

“This activity is a great way to expose and explain the actual objectives of the mentors to the students,” she said when contacted by The Borneo Post.

Nurol Asmayla said mentoring seeks to provide students access to skills less utilised during lectures and to guide them to use the skills in their daily lives so they are more responsible adults.

“Hopefully with the programme being held, students will be more comfortable with their mentors and they can share problems that they might have during lessons and seek advice.

“In the challenging and competitive learning environment, students are also flooded with a variety of information, which necessarily requires their wisdom to choose the useful information. The mentor-mentee programme can be a platform for students to express, share, and get more information that may not be available in the classroom,” she added.
